Maynilad to spend P13.6B for 2016 projects

MANILA, Philippines – Metro Manila west zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Incorporated is earmarking P13.6 billion ($288.35 million) in capital expenditures for 2016.

Around P7.5 billion ($159 million) of that will be for water infrastructure projects, which include the following:

  • construction, rehabilitation, and upgrade of treatment plants, pumping stations, and reservoirs, as well as laying of primary pipelines for water service expansion
  • meter management, leak repairs, pipe replacements, and District Metered Area management
  • modernization of data management and information systems
  • improvement of existing facilities
  • development of new water sources
  • refurbishment of Common Purpose Facilities (CPF) in the Bicte Basins and Ipo Dam

Around P6 billion ($127.2 million), meanwhile, will be for wastewater management projects, such as:

  • construction of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in central Manila and Cavite
  • improvement of existing STPs in Quezon City and central Manila
  • conveyance systems for new STPs
  • development of sewerage systems in Quezon City and Valenzuela

In a statement on Sunday, January 10, Maynilad said it expects to generate around 41,243 jobs from its P13.6 billion capital expenditures program this year.

“We start the year right by providing the necessary investments to continue meeting our service obligations and contributing to the job generation efforts of the government,” said new Maynilad President and Chief Executive Officer Ramoncito Fernandez.

Maynilad is the water service contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the west zone of the Greater Manila Area, comprising Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Las Piñas, Malabon, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, and Valenzuela in Metro Manila; and Bacoor, Imus, Cavite, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite. – Rappler.com
